Does a Typical Day Look Like? Here are your primary responsibilities:

 

  • Process Engineering Design: Producing conceptual / basic / detailed process engineering design packages including, but not limited to, process engineering calculations, datasheets, P&ID’s and model development in E3D  
  • Managing Project Design Phase: Identifying and managing internal / external discipline engineering resources (civil, mechanical, piping, EC&I) to prepare complete project basic design packages / detailed design packages to a ‘ready for construction’ stage  
    Identifying & qualifying external engineering resources to carry out defined project tasks 
  • Feasibility Studies: Conducting feasibility studies and preparing cost estimates, schedules and resource requirements for new plant and major modifications  
  • Safety in Design: Through application of process engineering knowledge, Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis and design reviews, ensuring project proposals conform to national & company engineering standards 
  • Project Management: Management of assigned projects throughout the project life cycle to ensure scope, project program, budgetary and HSE requirements are met. Conducting stage-gate reviews to ensure projects are sufficiently developed before moving to next phase 
  • Project Sanction & Reporting: Obtaining financial approval for assigned projects and compiling project reports detailing for report out to project stakeholders 
  • EU Project Leadership: Lead, define, plan & execute key capital projects in conjunction with site teams and other European engineering and technical resources 

 

What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):

 

  • Educated to degree level in Chemical Engineering  
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and to organise and prioritise / schedule multiple tasks.  
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to work within a matrixed organisation and remotely with site teams
  • Good written and verbal communicator in Finnish language (also proficient in English spoken & written)
  • Process Engineering & Project management with minimum 5-10 years’ experience within the chemical industry or other process industries 
  • Preference also given to candidates with experience in use of AutoCAD / E3D / Aveva / MS Teams / MS Project software.

 

The role requires frequent travel to UK and mainland Europe sites. It is envisaged that for the first 2-year the postholder will be primarily working at the Bakelite Kitee Finland site with travel to other sites 25% of the time. After this period, expected travel will be up to 50% of the time.
