JOB TITLE:                  Production Operator               

 

REPORTS TO:              Production Manager

 

DEPARTMENT:            Production

 

LOCATION:                  Pencaitland

 

HOURS:                        Production Operator Shifts:  12-hour shifts rotating between days and nights. 6am-6pm

& 6pm – 6am.

 

Production Operator weekdays:8:00- 4:00pm with half hour paid lunch

                                   

                                       Weighbridge weekdays:40 hours a week, 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday with an hour’s unpaid lunchbreak

 

                                    Weighbridge Harvest hours: typically include 8hr shift work on weighbridge,  

                                     6am- 2pm, 2pm- 10pm, Monday to Friday. Weekends typically 8am to 12pm.

 

Absence cover and other relief cover may be at short notice.

 

No holidays to be taken during the designated harvest period- mid Aug to end of Sep

 

SUMMARY OF JOB:                 

 

This role is varied, working a combination of day and shift work in the malting plant and silos and weighbridge/ laboratory operations.  Alongside other responsibilities key tasks will include product intake and despatch, implementation of plant cleaning schedules, harvest works, effluent plant works, and basic operational maintenance tasks

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Maltings and Silo:

  • Malt operations including the Steeping, Germination and Kilning processes. Monitor, record and adjust parameters throughout the process to produce malt to meet customer expectations
  • Silo operations relating to all grain movements, sampling and pesticide dosing/record keeping
  • Production of malt residual pellets and barley screenings
  • Liaise between multiple departments to identify and resolve operational issues or anomalies and ensure all deliveries are made on time and in full (OTIF)
  • Completion of all necessary record keeping in accordance with quality procedures
  • Actively participate in daily meetings reporting on site needs and plan activities with colleagues
  • Maintain a high level of scheduled and unscheduled hygiene across the whole site
  • Participate in site preparation for and partake in harvest operations
  • Conduct borehole chemical dosing as required
  • Operating effluent plant to ensure site meets discharge consents
  • Carry out basic operational maintenance tasks and assist plant engineering team
  • Inspecting, preparing, and filling of export containers

 

 

 Weighbridge:

  • Ensure correct operation and calibration of weighbridge
  • Undertake barley intake, malt and byproduct dispatch in line with site procedures including production and delivery of relevant certificates of analysis.
  • Maintain appropriate weighbridge records for malt, barley and co-products to FEMAS/AUKM standards
  • Carry out laboratory analysis on barley and malt samples
  • Preparation and dispatch of barley and malt samples to the central laboratory
  • Assist with the training of and coordination of harvest laboratory labour
  • Monitor and advise persons from arrival to site on appropriate safety standards and practices while on site
  • Foster positive site relationship between hauliers, commercial team and site operations team.  Work proactively with all to ensure site deliveries and intake are suitably scheduled
  • Assist in the operation of outloading and intake systems
  • Assist with production administration and provide relief and holiday cover as required
  • Responsible for plant mail
  • Management of the PPE stores

 

General

  • Provide cover forshifts and weighbridge during holidays, sickness and absence when required
  • Ensure site compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation and associated external and internal standards for food safety and product quality including maintaining appropriate records  
  • Undertake training and provide cover in other areas of the plant as per business needs.
  • Mentoring temporary workers as required to ensure the highest levels of personal safety are achieved alongside operational needs
  • Operate Manitou, forklift, scissor lift as required including moving material from flat stores

Qualifications/ Knowledge:

Desirable

  • Practical experience in an industrial scale production environment
  • Standard Grade Level/ Equivalent or above in Science, Mathematics and English
  • Experience of Weighbridge or Laboratory operations
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation
