Summary of Position
The Design Studio Co-Op provides an immersive, hands-on opportunity to work with Singer’s Design team. Focused on the engineering side of the design and development process, this role allows the participant to apply technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the real-world challenges of developing bespoke vehicles. The Co-Op will work closely with team members who are responsible for the craftsmanship, innovation, and aesthetic precision that define the Singer brand. This role will also have exposure to CAD (especially CATIA), product development, and studio workflows.
The Co-op program runs from June 2- August 15 in Van Nuys, CA and is full-time during that period. Must be currently enrolled in a college program in a relevant field to be considered.
Essential Duties
- Support engineering efforts related to vehicle design, helping translate conceptual ideas into feasible, buildable solutions within the Studio environment.
- Participate in CAD/CATIA modeling activities, assisting with 3D design development, surfacing, and packaging for automotive components.
- Collaborate with the Studio Team to understand aesthetic goals and engineering requirements, ensuring both are met with precision and harmony.
- Engage in brainstorming, sketch reviews, and team discussions, offering insight and support in idea generation and refinement.
- Observe and document individual team member workflows to understand each role and its contribution to the design and development process.
- Contribute to solving daily engineering challenges, balancing form and function in alignment with Singer’s high design standards.
- Track progress and success through regular mentorship check-ins and feedback on design tasks, drawings, and creative solutions.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning, asking questions, and taking initiative to improve designs or support team operations.
- Conclude the Co-Op with a reflective presentation, showcasing lessons learned, challenges tackled, and ideas for future improvements or design concepts.
Compensation
The starting pay for this position is $22/hr. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
