Summary of Position
The Design Engineering Co-Op position is a hands-on learning opportunity for aspiring engineers to gain real-world experience by contributing to active engineering projects. The Co-Op will engage in quality improvement efforts, support cost reduction initiatives, address special client requests, and participate in process optimization activities. Through mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and exposure to advanced engineering tools and practices, the student will build technical, analytical, and communication skills while adding meaningful value to Singer.
The Co-op program runs from June 2- August 15 in Torrance, CA and is full-time during that period. Must be currently enrolled in a college program in a relevant field to be considered.
Essential Duties
- Participate in real-time engineering projects focused on addressing quality issues, cost savings, and client-driven customization initiatives (“special wishes”).
- Utilize CAD tools and engineering systems to support design tasks and documentation.
- Engage in cross-departmental collaboration and supplier interaction to understand the broader product development lifecycle.
- Develop a foundational understanding of engineering processes, including requirements gathering, testing, validation, and design for service/manufacturing.
- Attend and contribute to regular project reviews and standing forums, providing updates and seeking feedback.
- Track project milestones and performance metrics through bi-weekly supervisor touchpoints.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements or inefficiencies.
- Prepare and deliver a final project presentation summarizing accomplishments, findings, and lessons learned.

Compensation
The starting pay for this position is $22/hr. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
