Summary of Position 

The Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op provides students with hands-on experience in our fast-paced environment by contributing to critical engineering initiatives that drive process efficiency, quality, and production excellence. The Co-Op will support daily manufacturing operations, assist with continuous improvement projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and optimize tooling and process flow. This role offers a comprehensive learning opportunity across product manufacturing and process assembly while supporting the department’s broader goals of operational efficiency and lean transformation.

The Co-op program runs from June 2- August 15 in Torrance, CA and is full-time during that period. Must be currently enrolled in a college program in a relevant field to be considered. 

Essential Duties

• Support the development and improvement of work instructions, capturing accurate process details and ensuring clarity for operators and technicians. 
• Assist in creating, organizing, and cleaning Bills of Materials (BOMs) to enhance product documentation and ensure alignment with production needs. 
• Participate in RTS (Return to Stock) audits to assess inventory accuracy and ensure production readiness. 
• Conduct line balance time studies to identify opportunities for improving throughput, reducing bottlenecks, and increasing process efficiency. 
• Contribute to layout planning efforts by supporting the implementation of new workstations or production cells, ensuring optimal space utilization and flow. 
• Engage in tooling support tasks, including inventory control, development of new tooling concepts, and enhancement of existing tooling systems. 
• Utilize CAD and data analysis tools to document, visualize, and support process improvement recommendations. 
• Track progress and deliverables through regular supervisor check-ins, weekly status updates, and end-of-term project presentations. 
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to solve production challenges, provide process feedback, and implement lean manufacturing principles
