Waste Water Treatment Operator: The Impact You’ll Have On The Organization and World
- You’ll be part of operations that are essential to our organization. You will have a deep understanding of our wastewater treatment plant operations, making sure we’re running in accordance with specified procedures.
- You’ll be a valued subject matter expert. You’ll understand the consequences of influent wastewaters and operational changes consistent with procedures.
- You’ll help us keep our organization running. You’ll help operate our plant efficiently and will be part of a team committed to excellence, working on a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like? Here are your primary responsibilities:
- Understand fundamentals of operating wastewater treatment plant (e.g. Flow, COD Loading, pH, Phenol Loading, HCHO Loading, MLSS, etc.), be able to respond to system changes, capable of predicting consequences of actions and understand potential impacts to wastewater treatment resulting from upstream actions.
- Conduct specific wastewater treatment plant control tests ,develop aptitude of understanding results of tests, be able to adjust wastewater treatment plant operations based on relevant data and understand reasons why changes are necessary.
- Add/adjust chemical addition rates, MLSS, water levels, etc. to ensure a healthy biological mass as well understanding the need for chemical addition rates and other rate changes.
- Understand how and why to direct upstream process wastewater streams into the front end of the wastewater treatment plant.
- Understand operation of certain wastewater treatment equipment, develop aptitude to understand workings of equipment and learn how to perform small maintenance activities.
- Understand fundamentals and operate filter press system including the filter press feed tank, understanding acceptable operation filter press system, any corrective actions that may be necessary and understand the working principles of the filter Press.
- Obtain forklift certification for purposes of moving about and repackaging waste materials when needed as well as understanding compatibility of waste streams as well as proper disposal methodologies.
What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):
- Minimum 2 years chemical plant background.
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Must be HazMat certified or able to become certified when possible.
- Must be able to lift 55 lbs.
- Good computer skills and aptitude to improve.
- Aptitude to understand technical concepts.
- Ability to work independently.
- Good verbal and written communications.
