Summary

NG Bailey IT Services is looking to recruit a Structured Cabling Estimator (Solutions Architect) to join our growing Pre-Sales team. This role is primarily focused on supporting surveying and estimating activities for various Defence sector premises.

We’re seeking a motivated and solutions-focused professional who can add value to client engagements, overcome design challenges, and deliver technically sound and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

Purpose of the Role

As a Structured Cabling Estimator, you will take ownership of the design and costing of structured cabling and associated ICT solutions. This includes producing detailed quote documentation, conducting surveys, and collaborating with internal teams, partners, and clients to develop bespoke, standards-compliant solutions.

You’ll often work on-site—either independently or alongside service partners—ensuring alignment with contractual agreements, industry best practices, health and safety regulations, and client-specific standards such as JSP. When using third-party survey partners, you’ll be responsible for reviewing reports to ensure compliance and cost-effectiveness.

This position also involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders and clients to provide technical guidance throughout the pre-sales lifecycle.

Some of the key deliverables of the role will include:

  • Solution Development: Design and specify structured cabling solutions in line with client requirements, NG Bailey standards, and relevant guidelines (e.g. JSP, ECR documentation, H&S compliance). Maintain awareness of market trends and emerging technologies.
  • Proposal & Documentation: Develop high-level designs, bills of materials, labour estimates, and technical proposals to support bids and quotations.
  • Client Engagement: Support Account Managers in customer meetings, capturing business and technical requirements to inform solution design and documentation.
  • Technical Updates: Provide regular technical updates to clients, aligning with each customer’s strategic objectives and infrastructure roadmap.
  • Project Handover: Participate in internal and external project meetings to transfer design authority and support a smooth transition to the delivery team.
  • Administrative Accuracy: Ensure all relevant project and pricing information is maintained accurately in internal systems to support billing, delivery, and sales teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in designing structured cabling and Wi-Fi installations
  • Familiarity with structured cabling vendors such as Mayflex, Corning, Leviton
  • Working knowledge of JSP standards and experience creating ECR documentation
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving mindset
  • Professional and confident communication skills when dealing with customers

Desirable:

  • Existing SC or higher security clearance
  • Design qualifications such as CNID, CNIDP, RCDD, or Ekahau ECSE

Additional Information

Due to the nature of work, successful candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo SC and Enhanced DBS clearance.

Benefits include:

  • 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays with an option to Buy/Sell additional days
  • Pension with a leading provider and up to 8% employer contribution
  • Personal Wellbeing and Volunteer Days
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life Assurance
  • Free 24/7 365 Employee Assistance Program to support mental health and well-being (including counselling sessions and legal advice)
  • Flexible benefits to choose from inc: Dental Insurance, Gym Membership, Give As You Earn, Travel Insurance, Tax Free Bikes.
