GlobalCapital, the capital markets news and data service, is looking for a journalist to contribute to its coverage of the bond market for public sector issuers. They will work alongside a section editor covering the sovereign, supranational and agency bond markets, producing the full range of editorial content for that section. They will also be an ambassador for the organisation within the capital markets.

Responsibilities

1. Contribute to GlobalCapital’s financial institution bond market coverage, covering the latest deals, trends, themes and news of key people within the market as well as providing accurate, timely data to our proprietary datasets.
2. Get to know the market and its key players to maintain GlobalCapital’s reputation in what is one of the most important markets it covers.
3. In time, contribute opinion pieces, longer features and analysis and make appearances on our podcasts as required.
4. Be the voice of the FI bond market within the newsroom, pitching story ideas, championing special report ideas, and writing for them, and providing insight and a source of collaboration for the rest of the editorial team to make sure GlobalCapital is at the forefront of the newest trends and ideas in capital markets.
5. Write with accuracy in the house style and to tight deadlines, to maintain GlobalCapital’s distinctive editorial voice and its reputation as a reliable and indispensable part of working in capital markets.
6. Build a broad number of deep relationships with key people in the FI bond market and become part of the daily fabric of that market to ensure the newspaper understands its subject and its readers better than any of its rivals and has as many sources for stories as possible.
7. Represent the newspaper at industry events to provide coverage, build contacts and to enhance GlobalCapital’s reputation as part of the fabric of the markets it covers.
8. Support the Bank FInance Editor in seeing that the relevant news and data sections of the GlobalCapital website are kept up to date and that relevant email news alerts are well presented with fresh content each day and distributed to deadline.
9. Provide cover from time to time for other sections as required

Reporting Lines

The Bank FInance Reporter will report to the Bank Finance Editor

Key Relationships

Works with reporters and editors covering the bank finance markets to produce coverage.

Has strong relationships with key people in and around capital markets to provide the sharpest and most insightful coverage. That means having the ability to call people in the market directly rather than having to rely upon press teams and other such gatekeepers.

Works with the marketing and production teams to make sure their coverage reaches the biggest possible audience, presented in the best way achievable.

Works with subscriptions sales team to help drive GlobalCapital’s subscriber growth, within appropriate boundaries of editorial independence.

Candidate Profile/Requirements

Deep knowledge of and experience of covering the primary bond markets.

A proven ability to build trusted relationships with sources.

Experience of running a section within a newspaper or perhaps a mini-site as part of a larger brand, including training and managing other reporters with a track record of developing successful journalists.

Ability to lead from the front in driving market leading coverage

Attention to detail and impeccable standards of accuracy.

Comfortable working with numbers and data.

Ability to work under own direction.

Willingness to travel abroad and work outside of regular hours when required.

Eligibility to work in the UK.
